portrait of Jeroen MourikStarting his career in 1992 at the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague, Jeroen Mourik produced Gigs for Kids: a jazz concert for children.

For several years thereafter Jeroen organised Doe Dans Festival: a biennial weekend event in which participants take classes from professional folk dancers from around the world; the 2,000 attendees were mainly families and the event included a wide children's programme, together with numerous performances by the children developed during the festival.

In '99 his career focused again on children, when he produced an International Clowns Festival, with more than 100 professional clowns, for a Dutch hospital foundation in Utrecht.

Until 2004 Mourik was the Director of Kaleidoscope, The Aberdeen International Children's Festival in Scotland.

During the four years he worked for Kaleidoscope he has developed the annual festival dramatically and introduced innovative new events of which a community project received lottery funding.

One of his big successes in Scotland was an outdoor spectacle: “The Four Elements” performed by over 500 children whereby each participating child had only 45 minutes preparation before the performance.

Mourik now free-lances around the world to produce the same spectacle or similar events.

Once a professional dancer and actor, Jeroen also visits schools and arts centres as an artist in residence: creating together with children a dance or theatre piece.

Over the years, Mourik has produced all kinds of theatre shows for special events and festivals.

In addition, Mourik frequently presents workshops and lectures at conferences and act as consultant for festivals and festival associations.
